Amber Smith struck out nine, and Starmount's JV softball team blanked North Surry 3-0 on Thursday night.
Smith allowed five hits, helping push the Rams to 5-1 on the season, 4-0 against Mountain Valley 2A foes.
Taylor Spillman and Sawyer Cranford led the Starmount offensive attack. Spillman was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs. Cranford was 1-for-1 with two sacrifice hits.
Emily Hunter started the scoring for the Rams, drawing a walk in the third inning. Spillman's infield hit moved her to second base. A throwing error eventually scored Hunter.
Starmount scored twice more in the seventh inning. Ashley Osborne walked, and Samantha Couch moved her into scoring position with an infield hit. A Courtney Barnes single through the infield scored Osborne. Spillman batted home the final run with a fielder's choice.
The Starmount JVs also beat Surry Central in recent action, 10-5. Osborne was the winning pitcher, striking out seven while allowing seven hits.
Cranford cleared the bases with a triple in the third inning to score three runs. Amber Smith finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Megan Blackburn was 2-for-3 with one RBI. Osborne hit a first-inning triple and stroked a run-scoring double in the second frame.
The Starmount JVs travel to Forbush tonight.
