Officers respond to disturbance at Yadkinville hospital
by Lindsay Craven
Several reports of a shooting at the Yadkin Valley Community Hospital poured in to local media outlets on Feb. 14, but police say there were no shots fired.
Yadkinville Police Department and Yadkin County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call for assistance at Yadkin Valley Community Hospital. Several officers from both departments were attending a training class nearby at Yadkinville Volunteer Fire Department and were immediately on hand to respond.
According to Yadkinville Police Chief Tim Parks a call was placed to the department for assistance.
“They had a situation that really was nothing but taking precautions. No crimes have been committed or anything else by an employee that no longer works here,” Chief Parks said. “The guy is coming back to get his stuff and that’s the end of it. I don’t know anything about the personnel issues in the matter. We were called because I don’t think they were sure if he had really left the property or not.”
Yadkin Valley Community Hospital CEO Shawn Bright said that he had no comments on the matter and that he could neither confirm nor deny that a staff member at the hospital had been fired.
Chief Parks said he is not sure how word spread that a shooting had occurred at the hospital as there was never a report made to that effect.
“I have no idea how reports of a shooting spread,” Chief Parks said. “We don’t have any charges or anything, we’re just staying around until the guy gets his stuff. The person involved has been cooperative and he has every right to be here doing what he’s doing.”
Chief Parks chalks the situation up to a changing of the times and people not knowing what to expect in situations such as this one.
“Nowadays you don’t know how to respond to something like this, so we are just trying to be cautious,” Chief Parks said. “We had a lot of people here, so we had a lot of help. Normally it would be so many officers responding.”
