KERNERSVILLE - Macy Johnson ended her phenomenal freshman campaign with a 70th-place finish at the 2A Cross-Country State Champioships Saturday at Beeson Park in Kernersville.

Johnson, the only Lady Falcon to qualify for the state event, crossed the line with a time of 21:38 in a crowded field of the top runners from across the state.

Joining Johnson at the meet on the boys side was junior Alec Faircloth.

Faircloth finished the championship race in 79th place with an impressive time of 18:15.

The duo qualified for the state meet with strong showings at last week’s 2A Midwest Regionals held at the same course in Kernersville.

Johnson finished eighth with a time of 20:30 to punch her ticket, while Faircloth crossed the line in 14th place with a time of 17:57. Both runners earned all-regional honors with their finishes, in addition to their Mountain Valley Conference nominations.

At the regionals, Johnson helped the Lady Falcons finish eighth in the final team standings with 173 points.

Fellow freshman Paige Keaton finished 17th with a time of 21:17, while Kaitlyn Driver came in 27th place (22:25) to give the Falcons three top-30 finishers.

Nancy Rios (58th - 24:57), Angelica Andrews (64th - 25:39) and Erin Crater (69th - 25:51) rounded out the scoring for the Lady Falcons.

On the boys side, Faircloth powered Forbush to a sixth-place team finish with 204 points.

Ben Wall (31st - 19:00), Nevin Gentry (47th - 19:40) and Noah Sisk (48th - 19:41) gave the Falcons four top-50 finishers, with Bryan Winters (69th - 20:50), Justin Millrons (72nd - 21:14) and Isaac Warden (79th - 21:34) rounding out the scoring for Forbush.
