In honor of local libraries, LEGO DUPLO and the Association for Library Services to Children have joined together for a project called “LEGO DUPLO Read! Build! Play!” WE NEED YOUR VOTES!! Anyone can log onto www.readbuildplay.com and nominate your favorite library. Nominations can be done once per day per computer, device or smartphone. Nominations are accepted through October 1, 2012. The library with the most votes will receive $5,000 for books and supplies. The top 200 libraries will receive a special preschool literacy toolkit. Are you interested in learning how to research your family history or in need of help in using Ancestry.com? Patricia Rogers is hosting an ongoing workshop from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm on Thursday afternoons. Patricia’s workshop will focus on using Ancestry.com Library Edition and assisting with genealogy questions and issues. Come learn what all Ancestry.com Library Edition has to offer. This workshop is free and open to the public. No preregistration is required.
STORYTIME for preschoolers will be held on Thursday, September 20, 2012 at 10:00 am at the Yadkin County Public Library. STORYTIME is an early literacy program specifically geared for preschoolers 2-5 years old. The theme for this week’s program will be “Healthy Me, Healthy You”, featuring the letter “J” and highlighting the literacy skill, letter knowledge. All STORYTIME programs are free and open to the public. Make plans now to bring your child or grandchild for a fun and entertaining educational experience, with stories, music and crafts as we help get them “Ready to Read” with the “Every Child Ready to Read @ your Library” program.
Looking for books at an affordable price? The library is a great place to stock up on some affordable fiction and nonfiction finds. With new additions daily, stop by the library and check out the sale items in the front entryway. As always, the library accepts donations with the exception of encyclopedias or textbooks that are more than five years old. A charitable donation receipt is given upon request.
The Yadkin County Public Library is a member of the Northwestern Regional Library system, comprised of libraries in Alleghany, Stokes, Surry and Yadkin counties. The library’s normal operating hours are as follows: Mondays and Thursdays 8:30 am – 6:30 pm and Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8:30 am – 5:30 pm.
