•2:30 p.m.-Ann Black, a freelance writer, will present a program on Julia Steelman McEwen Burcham, an herbalist, who lived in the Courtney Community of Yadkin County. Black removed skin cancers with herbal mixtures. Many people sought her services and credited her with saving their lives. In 1955, the State of North Carolina charged her with practicing medicine without a license. The Yadkin County Historical Society will sponsor this program at the Yadkin County Senior Center in Yadkinville. The program is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Andrew L. YADKIN COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY, LEGO DUPLO Read! Build! Play!


In honor of local libraries, LEGO DUPLO and the Association for Library Services to Children have joined together for a project called “LEGO DUPLO Read! Build! Play!” WE NEED YOUR VOTES!! Anyone can log onto www.readbuildplay.com and nominate your favorite library. Nominations can be done once per day per computer, device or smartphone. Nominations are accepted through October 1, 2012. The library with the most votes will receive $5,000 for books and supplies. The top 200 libraries will receive a special preschool literacy toolkit. Support your local library by logging on and voting! Thank you to all of our library patrons, ALSC and LEGO DUPLO who continue to support their local libraries!

• 10:30 a.m.—Preschool storytime for ages 2-5 will be held at the Boonville Community Public Library every Thursday. This will consist of stories, songs, and crafts. For more information, call 367-7737. All of our libraries of the NWRL System has access of Ancestry.com for the year of 2012. Patrons can research the web through our libraries for the year. The Boonville Community Public Library is a branch of thirteen libraries of the Northwestern Regional Library System.

•4 p.m.-6:30 p.m.- p.m.-Yadkin Farmers Market,open every Tuesday Evenings and Saturday morning from 8-12 in Yadkinville! Off US 601 North Take a right on Tennessee Rd. beside the Yadkinville Community Park. The Yadkin Farmers Market will be on the left behind the park. Selling fresh in season produce, plants, honey, baked goods, homemade crafts, eggs, goat dairy products, molasses, herbs, flowers, etc.


If you are in need of clothing for your family members we would like to invite you to visit the Courtney Clothing Closet located in Building C of Courtney Baptist Church. The church is located at 3341 Courtney Church Road. The church is South of Yadkinville off Hwy 601 just pass the Yadkin Valley Telephone offices on Courtney Huntsville Road, then right onto Courtney Church Rd. •6:30 p.m.-Every Thursday of each week we hold a program called TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) weight loss program. Monthly distributions of USDA Commodity Foods will no longer be distributed at the Moose Lodge in Yadkinville. They will now be distributed on an on-going basis through “partner agencies” of Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest N.C.
