STORYTIME for preschoolers will be held on Thursday, August 23, 2012 at 10 a.m. at the Yadkin County Public Library. STORYTIME is an early literacy program specifically geared for preschoolers 2-5 years old. The theme for this week’s program will be “Cowboys and Cowgirls”, featuring the letter “C” and highlighting the literacy skill, vocabulary. All STORYTIME programs are free and open to the public. Make plans now to bring your child or grandchild for a fun and entertaining educational experience, with stories, music and crafts as we help get them “Ready to Read” with the “Every Child Ready to Read @ your Library” program.
With school resuming and a need for curriculum materials, your library card is your most important tool. The library is a one-stop resource center for students, parents and teachers. We offer nonfiction books, North Carolina history, computers with access to printing, ebooks and NCLive with resources such as NCPedia, Student Research Center, North Carolina Curriculum, Newspaper Source Plus and much more! The NWRL Traveling Photography Exhibit is currently on display at the Yadkin County Public Library. This exhibit is part of the collection from this year’s NWRL Traveling Photography Contest. Take time to stop by the library and view the collection. Photographs will be on display through the month of August.
Patricia Rogers will continue to host the genealogy workshop on Ancestry.com Library Edition at the Yadkin County Public Library. This workshop will be offered from 10:00 am – 11:00 am on Tuesday mornings or 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm on Thursday afternoons. Patricia’s workshop will focus on using Ancestry.com Library Edition and assisting with genealogy questions and issues. If you are interested in learning how to research your family history or need help in using Ancestry.com, come learn what all Ancestry.com Library Edition has to offer. This workshop is free and open to the public.
Looking for books at an affordable price? Currently, a collection of VHS movies are for sale as well. With new additions daily, stop by the library and check out the sale items in the front entryway. As always, the library accepts donations with the exception of encyclopedias or textbooks that are more than five years old. A charitable donation receipt is given upon request.
The Yadkin County Public Library is holding an aluminum can drive. We are working towards filling our trailer. All proceeds will go towards the purchase of new large print books. Our trailer is located in the library’s parking lot, directly behind the library. Help us fill our trailer with cans and our large print shelves with new books!
The Yadkin County Public Library is a member of the Northwestern Regional Library system, comprised of libraries in Alleghany, Stokes, Surry and Yadkin counties. The library’s normal operating hours are as follows: Mondays and Thursdays 8:30 am – 6:30 pm and Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8:30 am – 5:30 pm.
