The Yadkin County Public Library would like to thank all those who came out for the Yadkin County High Schools Art Reception. The reception was held at the library on Thursday, May 10 from 3 to 6 pm.
This event was sponsored by the following: Boonville Woman’s Club, Yadkin Arts Council, Yadkin County United Fund. The Art exhibit will be on display at the library for public viewing through the end of May.

Patricia Rogers will host a genealogy workshop on Ancestry.com Library Edition at the Yadkin County Public Library. This workshop will be held from 10:00 am – 11:00 am on Tuesdays. Patricia’s workshop will focus on using Ancestry.com Library Edition and assisting with genealogy questions and issues. If you are interested in learning how to research your family history or need help in using Ancestry.com, come learn what all Ancestry.com Library Edition has to offer. This workshop is free and open to the public.
STORYTIME for preschoolers will be held on Thursday, May 17, 2012 at 10:00 am. STORYTIME is an early literacy program specifically geared for preschoolers 2-5 years old. The theme for this week’s program will be “On the Farm” featuring the letter “F” and highlighting the literacy skill, print awareness. All STORYTIME programs are free and open to the public. Make plans now to bring your child or grandchild for a fun and entertaining educational experience, with stories, music and crafts as we help get our kids “Ready to Read” with the “Every Child Ready to Read @ your Library” program.
The Northwestern Regional Library system is holding a “Poker Run for Readers” on Saturday, June 9th, 2012. This event is open for cars and motorcycles. Check-in is at 8:30 am, with the first out at 10:30 am. The poker run will start and end at Freeborne’s Eatery & Lodge in Laurel Springs, the host sponsor for this event. Cookout and live music by “5 Play” will begin at 5:30 pm. Pre-registration deadline is May 19, 2012 with forms available at any of the public libraries in Alleghany, Stokes, Surry and Yadkin counties. For more information, call (336) 675-0753.
We are looking for donation of prizes for the “Poker Run for Readers” fundraiser in June. Prizes, such as gift certificates for free services, plants, housewares, t-shirts, caps, artwork, baked goods, etc. will be raffled during the evening events. Any donations are greatly appreciated! We are also in need of volunteers who would be interested in helping at the event. The library will be closed on Monday, May 28, 2012 in observance of Memorial Day. The library will reopen on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at 8:30 am. The Yadkin County Public Library is a member of the Northwestern Regional Library system, comprised of libraries in Alleghany, Stokes, Surry and Yadkin counties. The library’s normal operating hours are as follows: Mondays and Thursdays 8:30 am – 6:30 pm and Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8:30 am – 5:30 pm.
