A $5 hot dog lunch was available in the Yadkin County GOP headquarters. The lunch included two hot dogs, chips and a drink. All proceeds went to Relay For Life.

Yadkin County residents driving near the courthouse on April 13 might have noticed something strange.
The Yadkin County Commissioners were locked up for crimes committed against the county.
The event was hosted by the Yadkin County Sheriff’s Office as a fundraiser for the Relay For Life. The event took place on Jackson Street just outside of the Yadkin GOP offices from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
All five commissioners had warrants for their arrest. The county manager, Yadkinville police chief, Yadkinville mayor and a deputy with the sheriff’s office were also taken into custody.
Each person taken into custody had to raise $100 in bail money before he or she could be released from jail.
Yadkin County Court Magistrate Laura Evans presided over the prisoners and accepted bail money as local residents and co-workers came by to tease and help to free the guilty parties.
Kevin Austin was charged with dissemination of county secrets and cutting taxes. David Moxley was charged with riding a moose through town square. Gilbert Hemric was charged with cattle rustling. Frank Zachary was charged with practicing law without a license in the state of North Carolina.
All of the commissioners served their time behind bars with the exception of Zachary, who paid off his bail without being arrested. Austin spent the longest time in jail, being bailed out by his son’s pocket change at 1:45 p.m.
Police Chief Tim Parks was charged with the desecration of bluegrass music by playing banjo in public on town square. Mayor Hubert Gregory was charged with disorderly conduct at a town meeting. Sheriff Deputy Danielle Reavis Shore was charged with streaking through town with nothing on but her badge.
All individuals were able to make their bail. Shore was even thrown back in jail for raising her bail too quickly and raised money for a second bail.
The event also featured a hot dog lunch for $5.
The event raised $2,021 for Relay For Life. The Sheriff’s Office has a motorcycle ride planned for April 28 that will also raise funds for Relay For Life.
