Gaither makes all-state team

Starmount two-way football standout Rashaun Gaither was recently named to the 2008 NCPreps.com 2A All-State Team as an athlete.

Gaither, who was named the 2008 Mountain Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Year, had one of the best seasons ever for the Rams.

As a running back, Gaither rushed for 2,138 yards with 30 touchdowns and had 321 receiving yards with two touchdowns. He broke the Starmount school record for most rushing yards in a single season, which had been held by Carlos King. On defense, Gaither patrolled the secondary as a defensive back, snaring five interceptions.

For his career, he finished with 3,272 rushing yards with 46 touchdowns and became the all-time leader in receiving yards with 746 yards.

As a defensive back, he finished with 10 interceptions.
