Nominations are now being accepted for the 2012 Governor’s Award for Volunteer Service. This year marks the 34th anniversary of this program that showcases North Carolina’s most dedicated volunteers. Through the years, North Carolinians have proven their concern and compassion for their neighbors by volunteering in their local communities. Each county selects five individuals, businesses, group/teams and Director of Volunteers to be recognized for their outstanding contributions to their communities. One of the five recipients will be nominated to receive the Governor’s Medallion Award for volunteer service. Nomination forms are available at the Yadkin County Public Library. Please return the completed forms to Malinda Sells, Branch Librarian, no later than Nov. 14, 2011.
The library is looking for a bilingual person who is willing to volunteer to teach a six-week course on “Everyday English.” The workshop would consist of 12 hours of teaching time and approximately 8-10 people in the class. Resources are available for workshop use as well as for checkout by participants. If you are interested in helping others and would like to volunteer your time, please call Malinda Sells, Branch Librarian, at 336-679-8792.
The library’s landscape is under construction. Due to visibility issues with the handicapped parking, two trees have been removed. In addition, a group has generously donated funds for the improvement and upgrade of our landscape. Please pardon the mess while we work to bring an improved and unified area for all library patrons to enjoy.
