EAST BEND — It’s fitting that in a tournament named in memory of the late great Austin Macemore, Starmount would perform well.
Nine schools traveled to Forbush High School for the Big “A” Memorial Tournament Saturday morning, and Forbush and Starmount alike both had plenty of reason to go home happy.
Starmount’s Joshua Pardue got things started out right for the Rams, defeating West Wilkes’ Andrew Deleon in the finals for the 126-pound classification. Starmount’s Dalton Oliver also grabbed a win, battling point for point for a 10-8 win over East Montgomery in the 220-pound classification. Starmount had two other wrestlers in the finals, and had a third-place and fourth-place finisher.
Forbush, the host school for the tournament, did not come away empty handed, and have Isaac McMillan to thank for that. McMillan defeated North Iredell’s Kaden Eklund 16-6 for the win in the 170-pound classification. While it was the only time they made it to the finals on the day, they made it count. The Falcons also had a third-place and fourth-place finisher.
The Falcons also had a quad meet Tuesday afternoon, but those results were not available at press time.
