Starmount Basketball Camp set for Halloween

Staff Report

Pumpkins aren’t the only orange thing this upcoming Halloween, as basketballs take the place of jack-o’-lanterns.

Starmount’s Basketball Camp is set to happen on Oct. 31 from 9 a.m. to noon at Starmount Middle School. Cost of the camp is $30. Camp is open to all kindergarten through ninth grade boys and girls. The cost can be reduced if campers bring five canned goods. All canned food items will go to a local ministry. Campers are welcome to dress up in their favorite Halloween attire as long as it doesn’t inhibit their basketball ability.

The camp will learn all the tricks on basketball skill development. These includes shooting, ball-handling, footwork, speed, passing, and defense. Players will be treated to instruction from players and coaches who have experience working/playing at the D1, D2, and D3 level.

Last year, Starmount went 21-2 and 14-0 in conference, winning their second straight conference championship. Starmount advanced to the 1A State Sweet 16 before losing to Winston-Salem Prep, who went on to play in the state championship.

Last year’s senior James Ashley was named MVAC Player of the Year and 1st Team All-District. Trey Bryant was All-Conference. Junior Kyler Gregory was All-Conference and 3rd Team All-District. Seniors Luke Shore and Jonah Shore were Honorable Mention. Starmount finished the season ranked #3 by MaxPreps.com and #5 by NCPreps.com

As a courtesy, interested people should email Coach Rocky Horton by Oct. 27 so that they can plan accordingly at Rocky.Horton@yadkin.k12.nc.us.
