Starmount had one less day to prepare for their conference matchup against West Wilkes, but with the way the Rams played, they wouldn’t have needed it.
The red hot Rams continued their winning streak, powering over the West Wilkes Blackhawks 47-7 Thursday night. After starting 0-2, the Rams (4-2, 2-0 MVAC) have now won four straight games. The Rams came out firing in the first quarter, scoring 34 points. Trey Lomax started things off with a touchdown run, and after the Blackhawks responded, the remainder of the game was all Starmount.
Last week’s Miracle-Ear Athlete of the Week Brandon Prescott continued to be the offensive weapon that he is, scoring three touchdowns on the night. He capped off the night with a 53-yard rushing touchdown. Quarterback Andrew Smythers also had a big run, finding a hole and busting for a 65-yard touchdown run.
Starmount has one of the harder matchups next weekend, traveling to undefeated Wilkes Central (5-0). Wilkes Central’s game against Ashe County was postponed to Monday night, however, giving them one less day to prepare for the Rams.
After some tough games against Mount Airy and East Surry, there may have been some doubt in some fan’s eyes for this season. However, if they can beat Wilkes Central Friday night, there’s no doubt that this team means business.
