Mooresville’s Donnie Chappell made the right moves this year in more ways than one, and thanks to that, he’s $3,000 richer.
Chappell jumped out to the lead on lap one of the FUEL Series race at Friendship Motor Speedway and never looked back. Chappell led all 40 laps in the main event to capture the win. A late race caution meant he had to hold off some charges, but Chappell just stuck to his racing line and pulled away for victory.
Defending race winner Ross Bailes looked like he’d make things interesting as he moved up the field, but was forced to the outside groove and lost most of his momentum. The points leader recovered for a third-place finish.
Chappell made the decision to move away from Jacksonville, Florida, to Mooresville, and since then he hadn’t visited victory lane until Saturday night.
Next up for the Fuel Series is a race at Travelers Rest, South Carolina. The date has not yet been announced.
