EAST BEND — The Forbush Lady Falcons softball team has had an undefeated first week of the 2017 season. On Friday night, the Falcons traveled to Boonville to take on the Starmount Rams where the Falcons came home with a 13-0 win. On Monday night, the Falcons took on East Wilkes, and earned a 12-1 win.

Forbush 13 – Starmount 0

On a chilly Friday night, the Falcons travelled to Boonville to take on their in-county rivals, Starmount. In the first inning, Forbush put one runner on base as Caiti Mickles hit a double to center field. Mickles’ runner, Kaylee Bullin, stole third on a wild Starmount pitch, but the Falcons were unable to bring Bullin across the plate.

In the bottom of the first, Rhi Patterson started things off for the Rams with a double to right center field. The next three batters were unable to bring Patterson across the plate as Mickles struck-out Kayla Vanhoy and Kendall Crouch. Kendra King was able to hit the ball, but she was thrown out at first base as Allison Mitchell made a great play to end the inning.

In the second inning, Forbush scored its first run of the night as Alexis Collins hit a double to left field. Kayleigh Williams brought Collins across the plate with a double of her own to right field. With a 1-0 lead, the Falcons went into the third inning with a renewed fire.

Forbush started off the third at the top of its lineup. Mitchell earned a walk to start things off, and Davis Ann Wood came up with a bunt which was mishandled by the Rams. Wood made it to second base, and Mitchell scored the second run for the Falcons. Mickles and Kelsey Swaim were able to earn walks to load the bases. As the inning was winding down, Wood scored another run for the Falcons to give Forbush a 3-0 lead.

The fifth inning saw Forbush score one run, but the sixth inning is where the Falcons came up big. Forbush scored seven runs, with Gracen Davis hitting a home run to score three runs. From there, Forbush took control of the game and held on to take home a 13-0 win over the Rams.

Forbush 12 – East Wilkes 1

Just as the Falcons started off strong against the Rams, so was the case during Monday night’s game against the East Wilkes Cardinals. Forbush scored one run in the first inning with Mitchell crossing the plate off of Mickles’ double, which found its way down the third base line. The second inning saw the Falcons score three more runs as Collins, Williams and Sommer Gray all found their way to home plate.

Forbush kept the scoring up in every inning as the Falcons scored one run in the third, one in the fourth, three in the fifth, and three in the sixth. In the sixth inning, the Falcons had two runners on base as Williams stepped up to the plate. With temperatures dropping and a win on the Falcons’ mind, Williams smashed the ball over the left field fence to earn a walk-off home run and score three runs for the Falcons.

Forbush earned a 13-1 win to take its overall record to 2-0 for the season. The Falcons travel to East Surry on Friday night.
