North Surry’s volleyball team couldn’t have been much closer to perfect this season in Western Piedmont 2-A Conference action.
The Greyhounds completed a perfect 10-0 run through the conference and closed out the regular season with a 25-23, 25-22, 25-14 straight-set victory at Forbush on Thursday evening.
The Lady Hounds, now 17-7 overall this season, lost just one set in conference play this season. The Lady Falcons — in a dogfight with South Stokes and Surry Central for second place in the league — did their best to make it two on their Senior Night.
North Surry coach Shane Slate said his team got off to a slow start, while the Falcons played inspired volleyball in the first two sets to make it interesting.
“We did not take care of the ball early and our first contacts were sloppy,” said Slate. “Things got better in all areas, (and) we finished play with a nice rhythm.
“I hope it carries into next week.”
The Lady Hounds dominated the final set to win going away, and will return to action against a to-be-determined opponent on Monday for the start of the Western Piedmont Conference Tournament.
