Postal worker honored

A Yadkinville postal worker was recently honored with one of the most prestigious and rare awards in the industry.Margaret Hutchens was named last week to the Million Mile Club in recognition of having driven in the workplace for 30 years without having a motor vehicle accident. The award is given by the National Safety Council and less than two percent of all mail carriers in the area district have achieved the honor.Hutchens is a 30-year veteran of the postal service. She delivers mail in the Country Club Road area, the Boonville end of U.S. 601, and the Hamptonville side of Old U.S. 421 West. She was very humble about the award she won.

 

Bank robbery suspects in custody

Two men are in custody following a Tuesday evening armed robbery at the King State Employees Credit Union.Steven Grant Simpson, 27, of Ingram Drive, and Zeb Maggard, 30, of Ogburn Avenue in Winston-Salem, have been charged with arrmed robbery after a prolonged manhunt Tuesday evening.King Police Chief Paula May said the bank was robbed at about 5:20 p.m. Tuesday and said King officers were assited by Forsyth and Stokes county sheriff’s deputies as well as NC Wildli...

Man dies while working on vehicle

BOONVILLE — A 25-year-old man was killed last Wednesday when the vehicle he was working on apparently fell on him.Emergency Services Operations Manager James Collins said that emergency personnel responded to 8225 U.S. 601 at around 1:04 p.m. where they found Quince Tilley lying underneath a vehicle.
