Wizards wow Yadkin County fans

EAST BEND — The young and the young-at-heart enjoyed a unique sporting event last Saturday night at Forbush High School as the Yadkin All-stars took on the world famous Harlem Wizards basketball team. Similar to another famous team hailing from Harlem, the Wizards were full of all sorts of tricky and awe-inspiring basketball moves, and it was all for a great cause.The game was the kick-off fundraising event for the Yadkin County United Fund.“It was fun. We had a good time,” said Yadkin County Schools Superintendent Dr. Todd Martin, who played for the All-stars. Martin praised the Wizards and said it was a great event for the community.


Two fatal wrecks in Yadkinville

YADKINVILLE — A wreck on Lone Hickory Road last Tuesday claimed the life of 18-year Elijah Maness.An updated accident report was not available as of press time, but last week a trooper with the North Carolina Highway Patrol said that a black Camaro driven by Aidan Watson, 23, of Hamptonville, crashed into a tree pinning both Watson and passenger Maness in the vehicle.Both victims were airlifted to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. Prescription drug theft charge made

YADKINVILLE — Stephanie Dawn Wilkins, 38, of Yadkinville, was arrested by Yadkin County Sheriff’s deputies on Sept. 19 and charged with one count felony larceny.Wilkins was at the victim’s residence on Sept. 10, allegedly without the victim’s permission and signed her name for a package that did not belong to her. She allegedly stole the contents of the package, prescribed medications. She was given a $2,000 unsecured bond with a court date of Sept. 24.
