Community provides hope and funds

On Sept. 20, the community came together to support one of its own at a fundraiser aimed at helping a mother of three with vital medical expenses.Heather Cox Coe, a top 20 finalist on season five of American Idol, was diagnosed with a pineal gland brain tumor four and half years ago. The tumor has been causing Coe various health problems including severe headaches and seizures, she said. When first diagnosed, Coe said doctors told her the only option was a dangerous craniotomy that could result in brain damage or even death. After further research, Coe and her family found a doctor in Los Angeles that could perform a much less invasive procedure to remove the tumor.


One more reason to live in a small town

I guess you could say September had a transportation theme at New Horizons Adult Day Services, Inc. After visiting Tractor Brown’s Museum and Event Center in Yadkinville, we decided to make a visit to The Transportation Museum in Spencer. YADKINVILLE — A wreck on Lone Hickory Road last Tuesday claimed the life of 18-year Elijah Maness.An updated accident report was not available as of press time, but last week a trooper with the North Carolina Highway Patrol said that a black Camaro driven by Aidan Watson, 23, of Hamptonville, crashed into a tree pinning both Watson and passenger Maness in the vehicle.Both victims were airlifted to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.
