Spring is coming, and activities are blooming at the Boonville Community Public Library. Preschool Story Time continues on Thursday mornings at 10:30 for ages 2-5 with songs, crafts and finger plays complementing the stories read. The Yadkin Family YMCA 2013 Annual Giving Campaign is going on now. The campaign raises money for the YMCA’s Open Doors Financial Assistance Program to ensure no child, family or adult is turned away because of the inability to pay. Yadkin County Arts Council’s spring and summer event Arts On Main will return to downtown Yadkinville this May but with a face lift and a name change. In just shy of a month, officials with Sheetz expect the Yadkinville location to open. “The projected open date is March 28,” said Steven Augustine, director of real estate for Sheetz. The store is currently under construction on Highway 601 at the intersection with Highway 421 in Yadkinville. Sheriff to hold community crime prevention meetings

Wilkesboro man arrested at Hamptonville motel
The Yadkin County Sheriff’s Office arrested a suspect from North Wilkesboro on Feb. 22. Alvis Whitted Jr., 61, Whitted was wanted by the Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office on charges of trafficking in opium/heroin and felony maintaining a drug dwelling. The North Carolina Cooperative Extension Administrative Professionals Association (NCCEAPA) is now accepting college scholarship applications. The North Central District that covers 20 counties in North Carolina including Yadkin will award $250 to the most qualified applicant. Rae Benton made it to the dean’s list cum laude for fall semester at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Tenn. She is currently a sophomore seeking an undergraduate degree in hotel, restaurant and tourism management.
