YADKINVILLE - Drag racing legend and Yadkinville native Todd Tutterow will be competing locally this weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Tutterow, a 32-year racing veteran, will be racing in American Drag Racing League’s (ADRL) sponsored “ProMods & HotRods” at zMax Dragway in Charlotte Friday and Saturday.

“This is the closest event to us,” Tutterow said. “We run anywhere from Texas to as far up north as Michigan, so we’re looking forward to this race. ” We are running a back-up car this weekend. I wrecked my primary car at St. Louis, and it’s still being repaired.”

The event will feature seven all-professional, eighth-mile drag racing classes, including Pro Extreme, the “quickest and fastest full-bodied, door-slammer class in the world,” according to the Speedway’s website.

“We run in the fastest class in ADRL, the Pro Extreme,” Tutterow explained. “We run eighth-mile only, and we exceed 210 mph. I’ve been as fast as 216 mph with this turbo car, so we’re excited about that. We do all that within 3.6 seconds.”

Tutterow and his Yadkinville-based company Wyo Motorsports will have three cars racing in this weekend’s event.

“We’ll have three cars running this weekend,” he said. “We’ve got another car in it that we tuned too. He’s actually fourth in the points, so hopefully he can pick up a couple more spots. Being that I wrecked my car, it kind of throws me out of the points. He’s doing well and is looking very promising this weekend.”

In addition to the race, zMax Dragway is hosting a cruise-in for local cruisers. Anybody who drives their cruiser and displays it will gain free entry into the race.

Tutterow, a 30-year Yadkinville resident, will be accompanied by his wife, Denise, and two children, Ty, 17, and Tia, 14, at this weekend’s event.

“Racing is a family event; we go to all the races together,” he explained. “My family is who got me into racing.”

Tickets are $15 each day or $25 for a two-day pass. Children 13 and under are admitted free. Parking for this event is $10 each day.

Gates open for spectators at 10 a.m. both days with qualifying beginning at 12 p.m.
