Yadkinville residents have a new option in shopping in the downtown area. Mimi and Me Unique Gifts and Jewelry and Merle Norman cosmetics opened its doors to the public on Aug. 9.

Mimi and Me is located at 118 W. Elm St. in Yadkinville. The store offers various gifts, jewelry and Merle Norman cosmetics.

The store is owned by Diane LeGue and April Moser. It was previously Merle Norman and was located at in the shopping center next to CVS pharmacy. When the previous owners decided to sell LeGue, an employee of 15 years, thought she might like to buy it.

“I wanted the business really bad but I decided I couldn’t do it on my own” LeGue said. “April Moser was one of our favorite customers who came in the store all the time. I asked her out of the blue one day and told her to sleep on it and she called me the next day and said ‘let’s do it.’”

LeGue and Moser stayed in the old location until the lease amount was raised. This led to their move downtown.

“This location had charm,” LeGue said. “We just fell in love with it.”

LeGue says that shoppers can find handbags, home accents, candles, hair bows and headbands, a full line of Merle Norman products, hand crocheted pieces and Designs by Kay, handmade designer jewelry by Yadkin County resident Kay Baldwin.

“We wanted to add the unique gifts so that there would something for everyone,” LeGue said.

LeGue said that the store would not be possible without the help of the Yadkin Valley Cruisers, Russell Bruner, Colton Bruner, Phyllis Aaron, Kay Baldwin and Jessica LeGue.

“The store is a collaboration of a lot of friends,” LeGue said. “We’re proud of everything we’ve accomplished in a short amount of time and we look forward to many years ahead.”

Mimi and Me Unique Gifts and Jewelry is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Call 336-679-4653 for more information.
