Donna Love is this year’s recipient of the Cooperative Extension Volunteer of the Year.
Love became interested in extension while in elementary school when a group of extension homemakers judged a 4-H dress revue she had entered. Today she still encourages young people to pursue their sewing skills.
Love joined a local Extension Homemakers (ECA) club around 1973 and since then has been a volunteer leader for this organization on the local, district, state and national levels. She has served as an officer in various capacities throughout her years of membership. For many years, she has served as the Yadkin County ECA treasurer and served on the Yadkin Advisory Board.
Love served on the cookbook committee and helped raise money for the Yadkin County signs along the county border. When the A&P gave an award for the Outstanding Leader of the State, she was the winner. She has taught hundreds of workshops to share her numerous artistic talents throughout the years.
Love was part of the driving force to establish a library in her downtown of East Bend. At a workshop, she said that she kept cards sent to her through the years by former students. At a special event such as graduation or wedding, she would make the person a box made from that card and put a note inside.
She and her husband Gordon Love have two sons.
“We at NC Cooperative Extension of Yadkin County are honored to present Donna Love with the 2011 Volunteer of the Year Award for her dedicated service to Cooperative Extension,” said Marilyn Wells with the Cooperative Extension.
