The Starmount Middle School’s Hunter Safety Program will be competing in the State competition April 27. The event showcases the strongest Hunter Safety programs in North Carolina, bringing together winners of several district competitions.
The middle school’s Hunter Safety Program is instructed by Mark Hardy with the assistance of Diane Campbell, Tim Campbell and Jessie Garner. The coaches teach students hunter safety, gun safety, survival and navigation skills (including Archery, Rifle, Shotgun and Compass).
Throughout the season they had scrimmage matches with other schools to practice and improve their skills. Then they compete at the District Competition in Iredell County.
The district competition was held on March 23 at Hunting Creek Preserves. Starmount Middle Blue Team won second place overall team, second place Rifle Team and first place trap team in the District Junior division, which qualified them to compete at the State Competition on April 27, 2013 in Ellerbe, NC.
Team members are Austin Gentle, Denver Sizemore, Lexi Brown, Zach Hicks, and Adrian Wood.
Starmount High School’s Blue Team will also be competing at the State Competition by invitation. Team members are Brett Campbell, Caitlin Caudle, Chance Dixon, Matthew Flinchum, Taylor Shoemaker and Parker Gunnell.
