Forbush Middle School students participated in a Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Walk on Friday, April 27. Students joined together with Forbush Middle staff to support this project and raised a total of $3,700.
Forbush Middle School has students with diabetes, and its students wanted to help make a difference for them. Students held a kick off on April 16th to learn about diabetes and JDRF. For each donation received a sneaker was hung on the walls of the hallways. The sneakers reached all the way around the middle section of the school.
On April 27 all students joined in the walk during their science classes. This project provided education and walking-wellness while supporting diabetes research.
Frances Tutterow, school nurse, shared the excitement to partner with JDRF, whose mission is to find a cure and to improve the lives of those with diabetes through the support of research.
JDRF is the leader in research leading to a cure for type 1 diabetes in the world. It sets the global agenda for diabetes research, and is the largest charitable funder and advocate of diabetes science worldwide. The mission of JDRF is to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research.
Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease that strikes children and adults suddenly, and can be fatal. Until a cure is found, people with type1 diabetes have to test their blood sugar and give themselves insulin injections multiple times a day or use an insulin pump, everyday of their lives. Insulin is not a cure for diabetes and that is what we are after by supporting this fundraiser for diabetes research.
