EAST BEND - Seventeen area soccer players were honored by the Mountain Valley Conference when the conference released its all-conference and honorable mention lists last week.

Forbush placed a trio of players on the all-conference list. Haley Lindsay, Jessica Tucker and Madison Morsch were all honored, as Victoria Cohn and Jessica Funk earned a honorable mention.

The Lady Falcons powered their way to the No. 3 2A seed from the MVAC with a 16-6-1 record overall and 10-3-1 mark in conference action. Forbush advanced to the second round of the 2A state playoffs after topping Randleman in a thrilling 5-2 overtime victory in the first round.

Leading scorer Mary Tayloe and defensive stalwart Rebekah Howard headlined Elkin’s nominees as they were named to the all-conference team. Payton Nicholson and Catherine Schumak were recognized as honorable mentions.

The four stars helped the Lady Elks to an 8-12-1 mark this season, including a 6-9-1 record in the deep MVAC. Elkin advanced into the second round of the 1A state playoffs after upsetting 10th-ranked Gray Stone Day 3-0 in the opening round.

Starmount matched its rivals with two all-conference honorees as Jessica Martinez and Fran Garcia were recognized.

Brittney Casstevens, Jessie Pardue and Chelsea Davis were named as honorable mentions for the Lady Rams.

The nominees led Starmount to a 7-11-2 record on the year, which included a 7-8-1 mark in conference play, competing in the tough 2A side of the standings.

Haley Smoot was the only all-conference nominee from East Wilkes, while Katie Huffman and Molly Callaway were named as honorable mentions.

The Lady Cardinals finished 5-18 on the year and 3-11 in the conference.

Wilkes Central swept the major awards from the conference, as Risa Baker and Uwe Ehrlich were named player and coach of the year, respectively.
