Hamptonville Dollar General now open
by Lindsay Craven
Staff Writer

Hamptonville residents no longer have to commute to Yadkinville or farther to shop at Dollar General.

The Hamptonville Dollar General located at 3112 US Highway 21 opened June 17 and held a grand opening on June 30.

“Dollar General looks at a number of factors when choosing new store locations,” said Emily Weiss, Dollar General’s public relations manager. “Some of these factors include customer needs, demographic trends and traffic patterns, to name a few. This location was the perfect fit for us. We believe we can deliver a convenient shopping choice to the community.”

Weiss says that the new store in Hamptonville will feature a newly designed layout.

“The store is designed to make shopping simple for customers,” Weiss said. “Seasonal products are displayed in the center of the store, and departments are easily recognizable with visible signage. The coolers are conveniently located near the front of the store.”

Construction on the Hamptonville location began in early April. The property is owned by Timothy and Donna Gough and is 1.282 acres. It was purchased for $205,000.

The Hamptonville Dollar General location is the fourth store to open in Yadkin County. Other locations include Yadkinville, East Bend and Boonville. The company has plans to re-open a store in Jonesville that was burned down in January of this year.

“Dollar General has plans to open a new store at 221 Winston Road in Jonesville,” Weiss said. “This store is currently under construction, and we hope to have it open late summer.”

Dollar General is based in Goodlettsville, Tenn. and is the nation’s largest small-box discount retailer. The company has 9,500 stores in 35 states and employs 85,900 people. Dollar General claimed $13.04 billion in sales in 2010.
