MOCKSVILLE - Four Forbush baseball standouts powered Mocksville-Davie County Post 54 into the second round of the American Legion playoffs last week.
Josh Faircloth, Ben Temple, Mason Doub and Brice Merrit led Post 54 to the Southern Division championship with a 23-6 overall record, including a 16-2 mark in conference play, earning them the No. 1 seed.
Pitted against eighth-seeded Concord in the opening round of the playoffs, Mocksville swept the series on three-straight nights.
After blanking Concord 9-0 in Game 1 on July 2, Post 54 pulled out a 6-5 victory in 11 innings to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the best-of-five series.
Mocksville punched its ticket in the second round with an 11-5 victory in Game 3 to complete the sweep last Wednesday.
Post 54 will now battle fifth-seeded Rowan County, who also breezed into the second round with a sweep of Mooresville Legends.
In Game 1 of the second-round matchup, Mocksville held on for the 1-0 win Monday night to take a one-game lead in the best-of-five series.
The second and third games of the series will be played Tuesday and Wednesday, with Games 4 and 5 on Thursday and Friday, if necessary. Mocksville will host Games 3 and 5, while Rowan will host Games 2 and 4.
