Downtown Merchants, Inc. held its annual children’s parade on Saturday July 14. This year’s theme was “Under the Sea” to go along with The Foothills Arts Council’s Kids Fest theme “Atlantis.” There were 50 registered riders for the parade and consisted of non-motorized vehicles such as bikes, scooters and parent-drawn wagons. In years’ past prizes were awarded in categories such as “Best Theme Decorated.” This year, everyone was rewarded with a goody bag after the play. Beth Charles, a volunteer with Volunteer to Downtown Merchants, Inc., says that this year’s attendance was lower than usual due to the early morning drizzle. Following the parade a group out of Greensboro put on the production “The Little Mermaid” on the stage at the Reeves Theatre. Most of the crowd then enjoyed the rest of the day at the Foothills Arts Council.
