Forbush’s Travis Holden fired a no-hitter against Alleghany Friday night. The senior missed a perfect game with a hit batter in the first.
WINSTON-SALEM - The Falcons bounced back from two-straight losses in a big way.
After dropping back-to-back games to area rivals Starmount and Elkin, Forbush battled familiar foe North Forsyth in a mid-week exhibition game at BB&T Ballpark in downtown Winston-Salem.
The Vikings, who are now coached by former Forbush skipper Jack Moss, battled with the Falcons in a thrilling, high-scoring affair at the home of the Winston-Salem Dash.
Forbush scored 10 runs through the first four innings to snap out of a offensive funk and jump out to a 10-5 lead. From there, the Falcons held on for the 12-7 non-conference victory.
The teams traded runs in the first and second frames as North took a 3-2 lead on Harrison King home run down the left-field line.
But Caleb Brawley ignited a burst for the Falcons with a solo shot to left-center, hitting the “Drink Local” purple wall in the outfield to lead off the third.
Two more runs came across in the inning before scoring five more in the fourth. Wesley Walker smacked a RBI single to left and Brittan Baity roped a three-RBI triple in the right-field to extend Forbush’s lead to 9-4.
In the sixth, Brawley brought home another run on an infield single before Ben Temple raced home on a wild pitch to push the lead to 12-5.
Mason Doub picked up the win on the mound with six solid innings. The sophomore allowed four earned runs on six hits, while striking out four batters.
The Falcons followed up the win with a dominating performance over Alleghany.
Travis Holden dazzled on the mound, throwing a no-hitter - nearly a perfect game - to lead Forbush to the 12-0 win. The senior did not allow a hit through five innings of work, with his only blemish coming when he hit a batter in the first inning.
The offense backed Holden’s gem with a dozen hits, led by Brawley’s three hits and five RBIs. Bryson Lee, Austin Livengood, Barrett Hennings, Walker and Baity also plated a run against the Trojans.
Forbush then capped off its regular-season schedule with a 3-2 upset victory over first-place Wilkes Central Monday night.
The Falcons jumped out to a 3-0 lead, as Josh Faircloth limited the Eagles’ high-octane offense throughout the game.
Holden lead off the second with a single before scoring on a Grayson Fulp RBI single. In the third, Lee lead off with a single. Baity and Hennings moved Lee to third before Brawley brought him home on a sac fly to center.
Pinch-runner Alex Mitchell scored the Falcons’ third run on an error at second base to extend the lead to 3-0.
Central finally broke through in the sixth with a Martin Koon RBI double and threatened to take the lead in the seventh.
After the Eagles brought the score to 3-2, Temple snagged a relay throw on a Jordan Carlton triple and fired home to nail a runner at the plate to preserve the one-run lead.
From there, Faircloth induced a grounder before striking out Stefan Susi, the Mountain Valley Conference leading hitter, to close out the 3-2 victory.
The three-game win streak pushed the Falcons’ record to 16-5 on the year and 13-3 in conference play. Forbush now prepares for the conference tournament later this week
