EAST BEND - Eighteen local softball players were honored by the Mountain Valley Conference when the conference released the annual end-of-the-year awards last week.
Starmount, Forbush and East Wilkes each placed five nominees on the all-conference and honorable mention lists, while Elkin added three.
The Lady Rams, who captured the top seed on the 2A side of the MVAC at 18-6, put three players on the all-conference list. Courtney Groce, Amber Smith and Rachel Wagoner earned top honors, while Ashley Osborne and Mackenzie Hutchens were named honorable mentions.
Yadkin County-rival Forbush matched Starmount with three all-conference selections as Natalie Hauser, Kelly Moran and Anna Wingler were named. Mallory Choplin and Cortland Phillips finished as honorable mentions.
East Wilkes followed with three all-conference honorees and five total selections on the 1A side of the conference. Kennedy Lester, Payton Lyons and Brandi Parks were named to the all-conference team, while Hannah Brown and Ashley Wagoner earned honorable mentions.
The Lady Elks, who finished with one win on the year, placed three players on the postseason awards. Ace Cayley Shoemaker garnered Elkin’s lone all-conference selection, while Hailey Swaim and Bethany Turner were named honorable mentions.
