Rams accomplish goals in loss at Ashe
WEST JEFFERSON — Darion Dobson and Christy Reavis contributed 12 and 10 points, respectively, but visiting Starmount fell to Ashe County, 62-36, in a Mountain Valley Conference game Monday night.
The Rams held the Huskies to just nine points over the game’s first seven minutes before Ashe County pulled away to score 29 points in the next nine minutes. “That is a tribute to our inexperience,” Starmount coach Mike Dodson said.
Ashe led just 9-5 after those first seven minutes.
In the second half, Dodson situational basketball, charging his team to “hold the lead” for the next three minutes; or makeup a five-point deficit. “I set four goals for them in the second half and they accomplished all of them,” Dodson said.
The game started at 4, rather than 6:30. No junior varsity games were played due to impending inclement weather.
The Rams hosted North Wilkes Tuesday night, with results not available at press time, and are at Alleghany Friday night, depending on weather.
