BOONVILLE — Starmount boys varsity basketball team fell to West Wilkes in a one-point finish Friday but are still 2-1 in the conference.

Senior Gunner Cass led the Rams with 18 points and Kyler Gregory recorded close to a double-double scoring 12 on offense.

Starmount Head Coach Rocky Horton said the Rams struggled with free throws in the game and ultimately it came back to hurt them.

Cass in the fourth quarter did deliver a perfect 3/3 from the line.

Horton said the game was close with West Wilkes hitting some good shots. The coach said he expects the ball games through the rest of the season to be close competition.

Starmount met Ashe County in a rescheduled conference game on Wednesday at home, but results were not available by press time.
