YADKINVILLE — Yadkinville Police charged five local people for their alleged involvement in a theft and fraud ring involving property stolen from a local jewelry store.


Katherine Ellen Billings, 24, of 2900 Nebo Road, East Bend, was an employee of Six Diamond Jewelers in Yadkinville, where police allege that she took more than $17,000 in assorted jewelry without her employer’s knowledge. Billings then allegedly elicited the help of four other associates to distribute the jewelry to area pawnshops in exchange for fast cash.


Billings was charged by police with felony larceny by employee and two counts of felony obtaining property by false pretense. She received a $15,000 unsecured bond pending a first appearance in court scheduled for April 2.


Sonya Marie Preston, 27, of 1323 Keaton Drive, Yadkinville, was charged with one count of felony possession of stolen property and one count felony obtaining property by false pretense. She was placed under a $5,000 unsecured bond.


Jason Ray Crawford, 34, of 1323 Keaton Drive, Yadkinville, was charged with one count of felony possession of stolen property and one count felony obtaining property by false pretense. His bond was set at $40,000 secured. Crawford has an extensive criminal record, according to Yadkinville Police Chief Tim Parks.


Kenneth Eugene Carter II, 18, of 205 Tyler St., Yadkinville, was charged with one count of felony possession of stolen property and one count felony obtaining property by false pretense. His bond was set at $5,000 unsecured.


Samantha Whitaker Fisher, 32, of 1049 Maria Drive, Hamptonville, was charged with one count of felony possession of stolen property and one count felony obtaining property by false pretense. His bond was set at $5,000 unsecured.
