TAYLORSVILLE — This week, Republican Dwight Shook announced his candidacy for the North Carolina House of Representatives, District 73 which includes Yadkin, Alexander and southeast Wilkes counties.

The seat is held by Rep. Mark Hollo, who is retiring at the end of his term in office. With the announcement of Shook’s candidacy, Hollo has offered his endorsement.

“I have known Dwight Shook for many years, he has the qualifications and the commitment to champion the conservative Republican principles I have fought for in the Legislature. Dwight is a leader who will do an outstanding job representing the citizens of District 73,” Hollo said.

Dwight Shook is a business consultant and educator serving as a business instructor at several local universities and colleges including Lenoir-Rhyne University, Montreat College, Catawba Valley Community College and Mitchell Community College. Shook said he believes in public service. Shook was appointed by Gov. Pat McCrory to serve on the N.C. Agriculture Finance Authority. He previously has served as chairman of the Sister Cities Association, vice chairman of the Alexander Co. Board of Health, and as a member of the Western Piedmont Council of Governments Future Forward Economic Alliance.

Shook is a Republican leader, having served as secretary and chairman of the Alexander County Republican Party.

“I am committed to putting my background in education and job development to work for the citizens of Yadkin, Alexander and Wilkes counties. I believe in the conservative ideals and conservative principles of the Republican Party and I pledge to serve with the honesty and integrity of my friend and mentor Rep. Mark Hollo. I appreciate his faith in my leadership and I look forward to serving the citizens of our district,” Shook said.

Shook and his wife Holly have two daughters, Brandi and Elizabeth. The Shooks are active members of Taylorsville Church of God, where Dwight has served as Sunday school superintendent.
