Two fires destroy homes in county

County firefighters responded to two major fires in two days in Yadkin County.


The first fire occurred around 5 :50 a.m. on Tuesday at a century-old home located at 2644 U.S. 601. According to Yadkinville Fire Chief Bryan Southard, the blaze was fully involved when they arrived on the scene. The home is owned by Richard Miller, who was transported to Wake Forest Baptist Health.


As of press time, Miller had been discharged from the hospital.


Yadkinville, Courtney, Lone Hickory and Farmington firefighters responded to the blaze as well as Yadkin County Rescue Squad, EMS, and the Yadkin County Sheriff’s office.


The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Yadkin County Fire Marshal’s office.


The second fire broke out in the early morning hours on Tuesday at a home on Sunset Road in Boonville, across from Southland Trucking.


According to Safety Officer Wayne Hutchens, the fire started around 3:30 a.m. from a wood stove in the basement of the home. The residents were at home at the time, but escaped without injury.


As of press time, further details and name of the home owner was not available. Boonville, Yadkinville, Arlington, Fall Creek and CC Camp fire departments responded as well as the Yadkin County Rescue Squad, EMS and the sheriff’s office.
