JONESVILLE — Arrests took place last week after an alleged meth lab was discovered at a home within 1,000 feet of Jonesville Elementary School.

Detective Sgt. Scotty Vestal and officers with the Jonesville Police Department recently gathered enough evidence to charge several suspects in the case.

The property where the alleged methamphetamine lab was located is at 129 W. Main St. in Jonesville. Its proximity to the school makes the crime a class E felony, said Vestal and Police Chief Roger Reece. They said also in the house were two children, ages 3 and 1.

Vestal said the Jonesville Patrol Division had responded earlier to a dispute call at the residence. The detective said suspicions of drug activity were raised after the call.

As a result, on June 20, Vestal subsequently obtained warrants on the following suspects for the following charges listed below:

• Crystal Dawn Cothren, 35, of 129 W. Main St., Jonesville, was charged with one count each of maintaining a dwelling for manufacturing controlled substance, possession of methamphetamine precursors, manufacture of methamphetamine within 1,000 feet of a school, felony conspiracy to possess/manufacture methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and child abuse/neglect.

• Larry Jason Chambers, 36, of North Wilkesboro, was charged with one count each of possession of methamphetamine precursors, manufacture of methamphetamine within 1,000 feet of a school, felony conspiracy to possess/manufacture methamphetamine, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

• Ashley Nicole Farmer, 21, of Elkin, was charged with one count each of possession of methamphetamine precursors, manufacture of methamphetamine within 1,000 feet of a school, felony conspiracy to possess/manufacture methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and child abuse/neglect.

• Virginia Billings, 30, of the 129 W. Main St., Jonesville, was charged one count each of possession of methamphetamine precursors, manufacture of methamphetamine within 1,000 feet of a school and felony conspiracy to possess/manufacture methamphetamine.

• Brandon Trent Gray, 28, of 129 W. Main St., Jonesville, was charged with one count each of possession of methamphetamine precursors, manufacture of methamphetamine within 1,000 feet of a school and felony conspiracy to possess/manufacture methamphetamine.

• Jose Isidro Castro, 48, of 129 W. Main St., Jonesville, was charged with one count each of maintaining a dwelling for manufacturing controlled substance, possession of methamphetamine precursors, manufacture of methamphetamine within 1,000 feet of a school and felony conspiracy to possess/manufacture methamphetamine.

Chambers and Farmer are still at large, said Vestal.
