According to the Yadkin County Sheriff’s Office, a Yadkinville man used a machete to threaten the physical harm of a victim he held hostage.


Police stated the machete was also used to damage the personal property of a victim and also damaged a telephone preventing calls to 911 for assistance.


The police release states the suspect held the victim against their will for over three hours.


The incident happened during the early morning hours on August 9.


Arrested was Patrick Harding Cleary, 48, of Yadkinville on charges of second degree kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon, injury to personal property, communicating threats, interference with emergency communication, and manufacture marijuana.


Police said the victim is a family member of Cleary.


“The victim was able to leave the residence and get help. We’re not releasing any further details on how authorities were notified,” said Detective M.D. Norman of the Yadkin County Sheriff’s Office.


According to police, the victim was able to leave the residence after the suspect fell asleep.


When the Yadkin County Sheriff’s were conducting their investigation at the suspects residence, marijuana was also found growing on the property.


Patrick Harding Cleary is currently being held at the Yadkin County Detention Center under a $100,000 secured bond.
