An East Bend man was jailed Friday following a domestic dispute that had a shocking finish.
Sheriff’s Office deputies responded Friday morning, August 9, to a domestic disturbance. According to a press release from the Sheriff’s Office Darrell Lee Powell, 39, of East Bend was found holding a “high powered rifle behind a residence.”
The press release said the incident took place at the home of Powell’s estranged girlfriend on Union Hill Road in East Bend.
According to the release officer gave Powell commands he did not comply with, which led to deputies using a Taser on him.
Powell was then taken into custody.
Powell was charged with aggravated assault on a female, assault in the presence of a minor, assault with a firearm, assault by strangulation, kidnapping, aggravated assault on a government official, resist, obstruct and delay of an officer, and possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
The press release listed Powell in custody at the Yadkin County Detention Center under “no bond.”
Powell will have his bond set at his first appearance in Yadkin County District Court due to the domestic nature of his charges.
