David Mayfield headlines the Reevestock Music Festival, which will be held in Elkin on Friday, August 2 and Saturday, August 3.

The singer-songerwriter, band leader, and Grammy nominated producer stepped out of the “Sideman Shadows” in music with his 2011 solo debut “The Parade.”

According to Mayfield’s website, David Mayfield grew up playing bass and touring with his family’s bluegrass band. As a teenager he established himself as a hot picker collecting national awards for his dexterity on guitar and mandolin. His knack for colorful performances was evident as a backing player in his sister Jessica Lea Mayfield’s band including their appearance on “The Late Show with David Letterman.”

“We’re excited to have David with us. Not only is he a great artist and songwriter, but he’s a fantastic entertainer,” said Sam Tayloe of the Reevestock Music Festival.

Tayloe is also a band member of the Time Sawyer Band, and Elkin-hometown musical group.

Tayloe said the Reevestock Music Festival started three years ago.

“Last year was really good. We’ve now expanded the event to two days. The Saturday event will go on as normal, but now we’re having a kick-off party on Friday night,” said Tayloe.

The Friday night kick-off will be at The Liberty building in downtown Elkin. Friday night features The Dirty Guv’nahs, a rock and roll fused bluegrass band out of Knoxville, Tenn.

Saturday, Aug. 3 festivities will be at 357 Ivy Circle, Elkin’s unofficial amphitheatre.

According to event organizers, Reevestock Musical Festival is a rain or shine event. Organizers indicate that if inclement weather is expected to be severe, the event will be moved inside The Liberty as an option, but such a move is only as an extreme last resort.

“We want this event outside,” said Tayloe.

Slightly Askew will serve the wine and beer. 13 Bones will serve as the official caterer.

Also performing at the Saturday event are: Jon Linker Band, Luke Mears, Joe Pug, A Great Disaster, Time Sawyer, and Owen Poteat.

Tickets are on sale now: Friday night is $20 per ticket; Saturday all-day is $30 per ticket; Two-day tickets are $40 per ticket.

Additional ticket information bundled ticket packages are available at www.reevestock.com.
