Ashe made a pair of first-half touchdowns stand to score its second victory of the season, a 15-14 win over R.J. Reynolds last Thursday.

The Huskies scored on the second offensive series of the contest. Josh Hamilton forced an early fumble, recovered by Garrett Miller that set the Huskies up with good field position.

Freshman quarterback Colin Ellis tossed a nice 35-yard touchdown pass to Joseph Lowder for the early lead. The extra point was no good.

A mistake by the Reynolds punt team gave Ashe two more points on the next drive when the punter fielded the low snap in the endzone, but had a knee down when he touched the ball, resulting in a safety. Ashe ended the first quarter ahead, 8-0.

This time, the rushing attack went to work to increase the Husky lead. Runs by Skye Sullivan and Alex Richardson moved the Huskies inside the five-yard line. Sullivan capped off the drive with a four-yard TD run. Kendall Richardson booted the point-after and pushed the Ashe lead to 15-0.

R.J. Reynolds answered back with an 18-yard TD run. The extra point was no good. Ashe remained on top, 15-6 all the way through the halftime break.

In the third quarter, the Ashe defense got things started in a big way with an interception by Richardson after Hunter Argetsinger put a lot of pressure on the quarterback. On the next Reynolds possession, Miller ended that drive with an interception near midfield.

Following an Ashe turnover, the Demons found the inside with a quarterback run from seven yards out. The two-point conversion was good, pulling Reynolds to within one point at 15-14.

In the fourth quarter, it looked like the Demons scored the go-ahead TD on a 75-yard run, but the play was called back because of a holding penalty.

Ashe forced a punt midway through the quarter and was able to use the strong rushing attack to run the rest of the clock out and celebrate the squad’s second victory of the year.

Ashe is 2-1 overall.
