HAMPTONVILLE — Antique tractor owners and fans will gather on Saturday to enjoy a country breakfast followed by a cruise through the countryside. This event will be Windor’s Crossroads Ruritan Club’s 10th annual Tractor Cruise and Show.
The day will begin with a breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m. at the Windsor’s Crossroads Community Building, located at 5101 Windsor Road in Hamptonville. Guests are asked to donate to the Ruritan club to enjoy the buffet breakfast.
“It’s a full fledged breakfast menu,” event coordinator Bill Wooten said. The buffet will include ham, sausage, bacon, scrambled eggs, juice and coffee.
At 10 a.m. the tractor line-up will begin. There is a $10 entry fee to participate in the tractor show and tractors should be at least 30 years old.
“They don’t have to be fancy or polished up or anything though,” Wooten said. “Just put on your regular working clothes and come on.”
The tractor cruise will offer several options from a five-mile route, to an eight-mile route or participants can do the entire 20-mile route.
“It’s a very, very pleasant route,” Wooten said. The tour will wind through Hamptonville’s Amish community and past several area vineyards.
“The most fun thing is just the people get to bring out their old tractors and get to show them off and ride on them a bit,” Wooten said. “And it’s fun as a spectator to watch those old tractors from the 1950s and to see them in that good condition and riding down the road.”
The entire route will take about an hour and half to ride, Wooten said. There are usually at least 20 tractors in the show and 200 guests at the breakfast. Participants also are welcome to just bring their tractor for the show if they are not able to do the cruise portion of the event.
The Ruritan Club sponsors several community breakfasts and events throughout the year. The group’s mission is to provide activities and serve the needs of rural community residents. In September, they will participate in the Harvest Festival in downtown Yadkinville and they will host their final breakfast of the year on Nov. 1 For additional information about the Windsor’s Crossroads Ruritan Club or the tractor show, contact Bill Wooten at 336-468-4450.
