YADKINVILLE — Six local fire departments responded to a blaze that began around 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday at J.H. Craver & Son at 1709 Highway 601, south of Yadkinville near the Davie County line.
The call came in to the Courtney Fire Department. Yadkinville, Lone Hickory, Forbush, West Yadkin, and William R. Davie fire departments all responded to the scene as well as Yadkin County EMS and the Yadkin Rescue Squad.
There were people inside when the fire began, but no injuries were reported.
“The fire started as a result of someone removing old equipment with a torch,” said Barry Willard, assistant fire chief for the Courtney Fire Department. “Most of the damage was in the attic area.”
Willard said the furniture manufacturing plant was empty and had been closed down for some time. Those inside when the fire broke out were there cleaning out the building.
A call to J.H. Craver and Son was answered but the caller declined to comment on the fire.
