YADKINVILLE — Yadkin’s Cultural Arts Center is gearing up for “Christmas in the Plaza” next month.

The event will be held Dec. 7 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Children and adults are welcome to attend the free event spread out across the center’s complex to celebrate Christmas a few weeks early.

Smart Start will present Santa for photos with the children in the Front Yard building between the arts center and Dewey’s Bakery. There will be a craft table set up as well.

The arts council will provide free face painting. Children young and old can decorate cookies inside the Third Branch Cafe.

A “Littlest Elves” workshop will be set up in the center’s classroom area. Parents can drop their children off with a personal shopper who helps them choose from a variety of gifts.

Every gift is valued at $10 or less and was handmade by art council artists. Gift wrapping is included.

This is the center’s first year running the shop, which is designed to let children feel independent and shop for their parents or other loved ones’ Christmas gift with a safe atmosphere.

The center’s theater will present four animated features from which children and their parents can pick and choose.

Starting at noon, the theater will present “A Charlie Brown Christmas,” “Christmas with the Chipmunks,” “Hoops and YoYo Ruin Christmas” and “Ice Age: A Mammoth Christmas.” Each is slated to run for 30 minutes or less, with visitors welcome to come and go as they please during the showings.

The center’s gift shop area will be open Dec. 6 and 7 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for visitors to stop by.

A gift basket will be raffled off Saturday, with visitors from both days eligible. The drawing is free and will include goods made by the arts council’s artisans valued at more than $150.

Third Branch Cafe will be open throughout the event to offer visitors food and Christmas music.
