Paramedics teach basic CPR to students at Starmount Middle School.

BOONVILLE — Yadkin County Emergency Services participated in the job fair at Starmount Middle School on April 8. Lt. Nick Hiatt and Paramedic Darrell Hardy spoke to 400-plus students about the paramedic profession and the training and equipment involved.

Ninety-five students learned hands only CPR. Paramedics Nathan Webb and Cari Harold shared the community hands only CPR. Recognition of Cardiac Arrest and early CPR is the key to survival.

“We always want to them to remember ‘Recognize Arrest, Hands on The Chest.’ The earlier CPR is started the greater the chance of survival,” said James Collins, emergency services operations manager.
