BOONVILLE — Boonville Elementary School announced it has received two monetary donations to the Backpack Food program. The Wells Fargo Community Connection Grant Program awarded a $1,000 grant to the school to provide food over the weekend for up to 50 students.
The backpack program is offered through the Second Harvest Food Bank as a partnership with the Boonville United Methodist Church.
Boonville School also received a $500 donation from profits made at a recent tractor pull hosted by the Yadkin Valley Pullers. The two-day event was held on July 31 and Aug. 1 and Boonville School expressed appreciation to this group for supporting the students and their needs.
The school will continue to take donations to keep this program going throughout the year. It takes about $8,000 per year to support the backpack program for a school year.
