Statesville man charged in Hamptonville Dollar General robbery

HAMPTONVILLE — On Dec. 11, the Yadkin County Sheriff’s Office received a call of an armed robbery in progress at the Dollar General Store in Hamptonville. The cashier told officers that the alleged offender asked for all the money in the drawer with the threat of bodily harm if the cashier did not comply. Following an investigation, and with the help of witnesses, the alleged offender was found to be involved with similar robberies in surrounding counties.

On Dec. 14, Gary Lynn Overcash Jr, 46, of Statesville, was arrested and charged with one count of felony robbery with a firearm/dangerous weapon and one misdemeanor of communicating threats. Overcash was arrested by Statesville Police Department. He was given a secured $75,000 bond. His first court appearance was on Dec. 19.
