Three teenagers were arrested early Sunday morning in connection with a fire of an abandoned building late Saturday night, reported Yadkinville Police Chief Tim Parks.

The Yadkinville Fire Department and two assisting fire stations were dispatched to Beroth Drive in Yadkinville to the site of an abandoned building, formerly a Wilco convenience store. Firefighters fought the blaze, but the structure was engulfed in flames before their arrival and the building was a total loss.

An off-duty police officer responding to the fire saw three suspicious teens leaving the area of the fire and called for on-duty police to investigate.

The teens, Travis Scott Casstevens, 19, of Yadkinville; Dustin Steele Freeman, 19, of Yadkinville; and James Chadwick Westmoreland, 17, of Jonesville, were arrested subsequent to a police investigation.

Yadkinville Police were assisted by NC Highway Patrol, Yadkin County Sheriff’s Office, and NC State Bureau of Investigation.

Yadkinville Police detectives charged all three teens with felony breaking and entering and burning an unoccupied building. Each was placed under a $10,000 secured bond.

There were no reported injuries.
