BOONVILLE — On Nov. 7, the Yadkin County Sheriff’s Office Animal Control Officer was called out to a residence on Pulliam Road in Boonville regarding a welfare check on some dogs. While the officer was on the scene, he saw several dogs that did not appear to have been cared for by the owner.

Some had no food, some were slim with ribs showing, and some were severely emaciated. There were two dead dogs that appeared to have died of starvation. None of the animals had ever seen a veterinarian per the owner.

The sheriff’s office was able to seize the animals after arresting Latasha Dawn Wilkins, 27, of Boonville, the owner of the animals. She was charged with two felony counts of kill animal by starvation and six misdemeanor counts of cruelty to animals. She was given a secured $7,000 bond with a court date of Nov. 10.
