Drug bust nets multiple charges

On Sept. 1, the Yadkin County Sheriff’s Office and East Bend Police Department conducted an investigation into the sell and distribution of heroin and crack cocaine. Undercover detectives were able to purchase heroin from two individuals. The officers and detectives tried to make a traffic stop on the suspect vehicle at an East Bend convenience store. The suspects fled in the vehicle and after a short chase were stopped. The following people were arrested:

• Darren Devon Ruth, 27, of Clemmons, was charged with sell and deliver heroin; possession with the intent to manufacture, sell and deliver heroin; possession with the intent to manufacture, sell and deliver crack cocaine; felony conspiracy to sell and deliver heroin; felony maintaining a drug vehicle; felony flee and elude arrest in a motor vehicle. Ruth is being held in the Yadkin County Detention Center under a $100,000 secure bond.

• Quantez Monte Johnson, 23, of Winston-Salem, was charged with sell and deliver heroin; possession with the intent to manufacture, sell and deliver heroin; felony conspiracy to sell and deliver heroin. Johnson is being held in the Yadkin County Detention Center under a $75,000 secure bond.

Later that evening the Yadkin County Sheriff’s Office conducted another investigation into the sell and distribution of crack cocaine and marijuana. Deputies stopped a vehicle in the parking lot of Sheetz in Yadkinville. During the investigation officers discovered a handgun, 21 grams of crack cocaine, and 28 grams of marijuana. The following people were arrested:

• Allen Douglas Redford, 25, of Winston-Salem, was charged with possession with the intent to manufacture, sell and deliver crack cocaine; possession with the intent to manufacture, sell and deliver marijuana; possession of a firearm by a convicted felon; felony maintaining a drug vehicle; two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia. Redford is being held in the Yadkin County Detention Center under a $500,000 secure bond.

• Lashonda Devette McCandies, 27, of Winston-Salem, was charged with possession with the intent to manufacture, sell and deliver crack cocaine; possession with the intent to manufacture, sell and deliver marijuana; felony maintaining a drug vehicle; two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia. McCandies is being held in the Yadkin County Detention Center under a $100,000 secure bond.

All of the defendants charged had a first appearance on Sept. 2 and will have a court date of Sept. 9 in Yadkin County District Court.
